Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about using Grout
Do I need an account to use Grout?
Not to run the local models. The 200+ on-device models work as soon as the app is installed, with no account and no internet connection. An account only comes in for two things: buying or activating a licence, and the optional Nexus AI cloud module, which runs models on Grout servers and spends Merits.
How does the Grout Suite subscription work?
A Grout Suite subscription gives one student or teacher a full year of access to all three apps — GroutApp, GroutCode, and GroutFilm — on Windows and macOS. It also includes 20 Merits for running Premium AI models.
What's included in the Grout Suite?
You get all three apps: GroutApp (AI Learning Studio), GroutCode (Vibe Coding studio), and GroutFilm (AI video & audio). The subscription covers a full year of updates, 200+ offline AI models, AI Vision tools, custom AI tutors, and 20 Merits for Premium AI models.
What are Merits and how do I use them?
Merits are credits that let you run Premium AI models from the Grout cloud — the most capable models for harder tasks. Every subscription includes 20 Merits. When you run low, you can top up any time from the Merit Store.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept major credit and debit cards and other local payment methods depending on your country. Contact our team for a quote and to start your subscription.
Can my school buy the Grout Suite for everyone?
Yes. Schools and colleges can license the Grout Suite for all of their students and teachers through volume licensing. Visit our For Schools page or contact our sales team for a quote.
What can I do with the Grout Suite?
The Grout Suite is three AI-powered apps for students and teachers. Use GroutApp for AI text and image generation, vision analysis, and creative projects; GroutCode for AI-assisted vibe coding; and GroutFilm for AI video and audio creation.
Which platforms does Grout run on?
The Grout Suite apps are native desktop apps for Windows 10/11 (64-bit) and macOS 10.15 or later. There is no Linux build, and there are no iOS or Android apps. The local AI models work offline, so you can keep working without an internet connection.
How do I share projects with classmates or colleagues?
GroutApp supports real-time collaboration — students and teachers can share projects, exchange feedback, and work together over the local network, all from inside the app.
Is there a limit to how many projects I can create?
No. A Grout Suite subscription includes unlimited project creation across all three apps for the full year.
How can teachers use the Grout Suite in class?
Teachers load their textbooks, notebooks and syllabus into AI-Memory, then build lesson plans, notes, slides and worksheets from that material. Handwritten answer sheets can be scanned and graded with the on-device vision models, and classes share work in the same connected workspace.
Can parents follow a student's progress?
Yes. A guardian can be linked to a student and see progress across projects and homework, plus daily screen time and which AI models were used. Because the local models run on the device, the prompts sent to them are never held in the cloud.
How is student work handled?
Work created with the local models is processed on the device itself and is not sent to or stored on Grout servers, so there is no vendor-held copy of it. The optional Nexus AI cloud module is the exception: when a student opts in, that prompt goes to Grout GPU servers. Grout holds no COPPA, FERPA, GDPR or SOC 2 certification, and the school remains the data controller for anything it collects locally.
What data leaves my computer?
Almost none of it. The local models, your projects and your files stay on the device. The only features that contact our servers are licence activation and the optional Nexus AI cloud module. We do not sell personal data. Grout holds no SOC 2, GDPR, FERPA or COPPA certification, so we make no compliance claims.
Can I export my work from the Grout Suite?
Yes. You can export your projects in various formats including GRT project files, PDF, PNG, DOCX, and more, and sync with Google Drive for backup and sharing.
What are the system requirements for the Grout Suite?
Windows 10/11 (64-bit) or macOS 10.15 or later, 8GB RAM minimum (16GB recommended) and about 4GB of free disk space, plus room for the models you download. The local models work offline; the optional Nexus AI cloud module needs an account, a connection and Merits.
